Valentine’s Day Events in St. Louis

Have you made Valentine’s Day plans yet? There are so many things to do in St. Louis that I could write on and on and still miss some. I intended for this to be just one post, but couldn’t fit everything in one! So, this will be a three-part topic: activities to do for Valentine’s Day, restaurant ideas, and places to get great desserts.

So, let’s start with dessert first! Here are some of the best places in St. Louis to get an amazing dessert this weekend:

Valentines Desserts in St Louis

Bailey’s Chocolate Bar

voted Readers’ Choice in 2009 by Sauce Magazine and Best Chocolate Dessert in 2009 by the Riverfront Times. It was also runner up for Favorite Romantic Restaurant and Favorite Martini. Try the Chocolate Inebriation or the chocolate-infused Lovers Plate for Two, plus dozens of chocolate-themed drinks. Cheese plates, gourmet pizzas, and sandwiches are also amazing. Chocolate boxes to go are also made to order for an amazing Valentine’s Day gift!

Crown Candy Kitchen

a St. Louis tradition since 1913. Take a step back in time at this historic soda fountain, serving homemade chocolates and yummy diner food. Their malts are legendary – they even have a challenge where patrons can try to drink 5 malts in under 30 minutes. The Travel Channels “Man vs. Food” even featured this challenge – but wasn’t able to do it! But, I don’t recommend attempting this on a date this Valentine’s Day!

Cheesecake Factory

okay, this is a chain, but with 50 different kinds of cheesecakes and desserts available, plus a huge lunch and dinner menu – it is hard to go wrong here.

Ted Drewes

A St Louis favorite!! Of course, no list of St. Louis desserts would be complete without their must-have frozen custard and concretes! But only the location on Chippewa is open this time of year.

McArthur’s Bakery

A great place to pick up some chocolate-covered strawberries, cupcakes, cookies, or petit fours, and more for your sweetie this Valentine’s Day. Voted “Best of Weddings” for their wedding cakes three years in a row, this bakery was also chosen to create a 6-foot long cake replica of the St. Louis Art Museum for last month’s expansion celebration!

Valentines Dinner in St Louis

Dinner at an amazing restaurant can be a romantic way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and St. Louis has so many places to choose from.  Valentine’s Day is only a couple days away, so to make sure you can get a seat and avoid waiting, make reservations now! Here are a few of my very favorites in St. Louis:

Top of the Riverfront

Definitely the best view around, this restaurant is located at the top of the Millennium hotel and rotates 360 degrees to give diners amazing views of the downtown skyline. They have special Valentine’s weekend menu that includes filet mignon, lobster, and more.  They have several Valentine’s specials, and also accept reservations online or by phone.

Dominic’s on the Hill

There are so many amazing restaurants on the Hill, but this one is my favorite.  Serving gourmet Italian for almost 40 years and voted one of the two best Italian restaurants in the country by Conde Nast Traveler. They will fill up fast this weekend, but you can make reservations online or by phone.

The Melting Pot

Although this is a chain restaurant, the delicious food and romantic atmosphere make it a great date restaurant.  Enjoy a four-course meal of fondue at your own private table. There are two locations in St. Louis and Valentine’s specials available.  They accept reservations online or by phone.

Brasserie by Niche

Okay, I’ve haven’t been to this one yet.  But it just opened in November and is one of the most talked-about restaurants right now in St. Louis.  With an award-winning chef and unpretentious French cuisine, it is definitely worth a try. You can read more about it in this article from the Riverfront Times. They accept reservations online or by phone.

Seki’s Sushi Bar

This is my personal favorite for sushi in St. Louis.  It isn’t like every other trendy sushi place around, a first-generation Japanese family run this traditional and authentic restaurant. The sushi is always awesome and the homemade green tea ice cream is the best I’ve ever had. Yum.

This is part 2 of a 3 part post about what to do around St. Louis for Valentine’s Day.  Read part 1 about great dessert spots, and check back tomorrow for some fun things to do around the city.  I’m sure I’ve missed some great places to eat, so let me know your favorite restaurant in the comments!

Valentines Events in St Louis

Still, looking for something to do for Valentine’s Day?  Here are some ideas on what to do around St. Louis this weekend.  But it’s only a couple of days away, so make reservations or buy tickets now before it’s too late!

Untamed Hearts at the St. Louis Zoo

A gourmet four-course meal by candlelight is followed by an entertaining look at the details of animal attraction.  This Saturday and Sunday night, from 6 to 8:30 pm. Today is the last day for reservations, so hurry! The zoo is also offering Valentine’s adoption package – adopt a King Penguin for $40 and get a stuffed penguin, adoption certificate, and more.

Valentine’s Romance at the St Louis Symphony Orchestra

Listen to the symphony perform Valentine’s Day themed music in Powell Hall.  Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture, Berlioz’s Love Scene from Romeo et Juliette, plus more romantic music will be featured this Sunday at 3 pm.

Love in the Loop

There is always plenty to do at the Loop, but this weekend there will be even more reason to go.  Free carriage rides from 7 to 10 pm, window displays, and Valentine’s weekend sales specials at over 20 shops and restaurants.  Many stores are offering 10-20% off or free chocolate, candy, or champagne while you shop.

Little Hills Winery in St. Charles

Set in historic St. Charles, this winery is a great place to go for Valentine’s Day.  Enjoy a variety of wines and live music.  This Saturday night, the renowned Carolbeth True Jazz Quartet will be featured from 6 to 10 pm. They also offer a full dinner menu, with Valentine’s Day specials.
